James Sunderland is the main character of this story. A widower looking for his dead wife Mary who he believes died from terminal illness but seems to be waiting for him in the misty little town of silent hill after receiving a letter with her handwriting. When he finally arrives there, the town isn't quite as it seemed, putting him through hellish trials to find out the truth of what happened to his wife.
